Dave is currently a sales and consulting representative with Cutting Edge Tree Professionals located in Pleasant Gap, Centre County Pennsylvania. His primary responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with customers and assisting them with their tree care projects. His focus is on the customer’s goals while caring for their trees and property.
Dave earned a Bachelor of Science from The College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, New York in the fields of forest resource management and forest biology. He completed a Master of Forest Resources at The Pennsylvania State University. For his master’s, Dave created educational materials on the use of herbicides to manage competing and invasive vegetation.
Before coming to Cutting Edge, Dave worked as a Forest Resources Educator/Specialist with Penn State Extension out of the Centre County office in Bellefonte. He had been in that position from January 2002 through June 2022. He had statewide responsibilities to deliver educational programs to private forest landowners, natural resource professionals, homeowners, and youth on a wide range of forest resource related topics.
Additionally, Dave worked in various seasonal and temporary positions with the U.S Forest Service in Montana, Vermont, and Pennsylvania as well as with Boise Cascade Corporation in southwestern Oregon. He spent a year working for the University of Kentucky on their teaching and research forest before accepting a permanent position with the Virginia Department of Forestry in 1992. He spent eight years there working as a state service forester. He left Virginia in 2000 to take a position with Forecon, Inc. Consulting Foresters as a field forester assigned to manage approximately 35,000 acres of investment land in the eastern Catskill Mountains of New York.
He is currently a member of the Society of American Foresters (SAF), the Pennsylvania Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals, and the Pennsylvania Forestry Association. He serves as the Treasurer for the Rothrock Chapter of SAF. In 2021 Dave was awarded the SAF President’s Award for Outstanding Field Forester. In 2010 he received the Sandy Cochran Award for Excellence in Natural Resources Education from the Pennsylvania Forestry Association. In 2006 he received the Tree Farm Leadership Award from the American Forest Foundation for outstanding service to the national, regional, and state Tree Farm Program. He also maintains an active Pesticide Applicators License for the state of Pennsylvania.
